Medicube Enters China Offline: What It Means for K-Beauty Wholesale Buyers

Medicube has made its first formal offline entry into mainland China, led by its PDRN range. Here is what it means for K-beauty wholesale buyers.

Medicube, the flagship skincare brand of Korean beauty group APR, has made its first formal offline entry into mainland China, according to Korean business press reports on 30 September 2026. The move comes just weeks after the brand's PDRN line was caught up in safety questions in Hong Kong and Singapore, and it is a useful signal for anyone buying K-beauty wholesale.

What happened

APR has started placing Medicube in WOW COLOUR, a beauty select-shop chain with 300+ stores often described as "China's Olive Young", and in SANFU, a lifestyle chain with 1,000+ stores concentrated in tier 1–3 cities. Until now Medicube sold in China mainly online (Tmall and similar platforms) and through pop-up stores, so this is its first formal offline retail listing.

The lead products are the Medicube PDRN range. APR says only products that have completed China's hygiene registration can be sold through formal offline retail, and that the PDRN lines now going in have finished that process. Distribution runs through a Shanghai partner that reportedly has 10,000+ points of sale across 20+ provinces and cities. The plan is to open flagship counters in premium channels in major cities first, then expand to smaller cities.

The background: Hong Kong and Singapore

In July, Hong Kong customs announced it had detected a colourant banned for cosmetic use in a Medicube PDRN capsule cream, and local sales stopped. In August, Singapore's Health Sciences Authority ordered a recall of two batch numbers after detecting trace amounts of another colourant at some retailers. APR's position is that testing at domestic and overseas labs found none, and that the affected products did not come through its official distribution channels. Some commentators have raised the possibility of counterfeits with copied batch numbers. We are reporting the company's statement, not making a finding of our own.

Why the sales mix matters

APR's Greater China share of revenue fell from 14% in 2024 to 5% in the first quarter of 2026. That was not a collapse in China so much as faster growth elsewhere: in Q2 the company's US revenue rose about 265% and Europe about 380%, while Asia overall grew 14.5%. Medicube is now applying the playbook it used in the West: build awareness online, then widen the official offline network.

What it means for wholesale buyers

  • Official channels are becoming a selling point. The safety stories were hardest to resolve where supply was unofficial and traceability was weak. Buying from authorised, documented sources protects your shelf and your customers.
  • PDRN is still the category to watch. Even after the controversy, the brand chose PDRN as its lead product for a regulated market. Demand for the ingredient has not gone away; scrutiny of provenance has increased.
  • Markets are diverging. The US and Europe are leading growth, while China remains too large to ignore. Expect brands to prioritise supply by market, which can affect allocation and lead times.
